The Fourth Volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China Published in Chinese and English
As the whole Party and all of society were expecting the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was bilingually published by Foreign Languages Press in Chinese and English on July 2. Compiled by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council Information Office, with the support of the Research Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, and China International Publishing Group, the book will be available both domestically and internationally.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, Chinese Communists with Comrade Xi Jinping as their chief representative have – on the basis of adapting the basic tenets of Marxism to China’s specific realities and to its traditional culture, thoroughly reviewing and fully applying the historical experience gained since the founding of the Party, and proceeding from new realities – established Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. This is Marxism of contemporary China and the 21st century. It represents Marxism applied to contemporary China and the 21st century, and the essence of Chinese culture combined with the ethos of the Chinese nation in the new era. It marks a new step forward in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context.
The first three volumes of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China have played an important role in explaining the Party’s innovative theories, in inspiring people to work harder, and in presenting China to the rest of the world. Over the past two years, Xi Jinping has led the Party and the people in the effort to respond to changes and open up new prospects by making a penetrating analysis and acute assessment of major theoretical and practical issues concerning the development of the Party and the country. Employing originality in vision and a full range of ideas and strategies, he has provided answers to questions concerning the present and future of China and its people, and the wider world.
The fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China contains a compilation of 109 of Xi Jinping’s spoken and written works from February 3, 2020 to May 10, 2022, along with 45 photographs taken since January 2020. It is divided into 21 sections by topic. For ease of reading, notes are provided at the end of relevant articles.
This volume records of how the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core has given overall consideration to the domestic and international situation in response to a pandemic and a scale of change unseen in a century and an unprecedented level of risks and challenges. It has succeeded in striking a balance between development and security, and between carrying out effective epidemic prevention and control and maintaining economic and social development. It has united the whole Party and the whole country and led them in achieving the First Centenary Goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and embarking on the march towards the Second Centenary Goal of building China into a modern socialist country. The fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China demonstrates the new Marxist theories adapted to the context of contemporary China and the Party’s latest contribution to building a global community of shared future and a better world. This volume is an authoritative work that fully and systematically reflects Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
The publication of the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China will help Party members, officials, and the general public to better understand and apply Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, to safeguard the Two Affirmations, to strengthen their commitment to the Two Upholds, to guide them to forge ahead in unity and with greater resolve on a new journey in the new era, and to welcome the 20th CPC National Congress with unity in will and concrete action. It will also keep the international community abreast of the latest developments in President Xi’s thoughts, and explain the development path that China has chosen and its approach to and theory of governance.
