Founded in 1952, Foreign Languages Press (FLP) is the largest international-facing publisher in the People’s Republic of China. It is now part of China International Communications Group (CICG). Since its founding, FLP has served the cause of international communication for the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government. It translates into multiple languages, and publishes works of China’s national leaders, important documents of the Party and the state, government white papers, and a wide range of books that present China’s real conditions, development philosophy and achievements. It also compiles, translates and publishes Chinese literary works and academic and cultural classics. The company has achieved many remarkable successes, and exerts far-reaching influence in these areas, and has made an important contribution to letting China’s voice be heard, telling China’s stories well, spreading Chinese culture, and facilitating cultural communication, cooperation and mutual understanding between China and the rest of the world.
Compiled by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee with the support of the Research Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee and CICG, and published by FLP, the four volumes of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, are the most authoritative works to comprehensively expound Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. To date, the books have been published in 36 languages and distributed in more than 170 countries and regions. As an important channel for the outside world to understand contemporary China and the CPC, they have been received by the international community with keen interest, and elicited wide praise.
FLP has a wealth of resources in international communication. It was the first of China’s publishers to engage in international copyright trade and co-publishing, and has always maintained its leadership in the export of copyright of Chinese publications.
FLP has built its strengths in editing, translation, publishing, and marketing to a foreign audience, and enjoys a solid reputation in the international publishing industry. On several occasions it has won the title of “model publisher” under the Chinese Government Award for Publishing, a top national award in the press and publishing industry.
