China’s Development in the New Era – The Zhejiang Experience was jointly launched by Foreign Languages Press (FLP) and Zhejiang International Communication Center (ZICC) at an event in Beijing on March 27.
Held under the auspices of China International Communications Group (CICG) and the Publicity Department of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, the event was attended by about 100 guests including CICG Vice President Yu Tao, Vice Chairman of the Publishers Association of China Lu Cairong, Associate Inspector from the International Communication Bureau of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee Ji Meng, Member of the Commission for Departmental Affairs of the Publicity Department of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee Luo Lili, FLP President Hu Kaimin, Editor-in-Chief of China Internet Information Center Wang Xiaohui, FLP Editor-in-Chief Xu Rong, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Daily Sun Shangwu, President of Xinhua Institute Liu Gang, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Zhejiang Daily Press Group Zhang Liang, Associate Inspector from the Domestic Department of the All-China Journalists Association Liu Tingting, President of the School of Journalism and Communication of Peking University Chen Gang, President of the School of Journalism and Communication of Beijing Normal University Zhang Hongzhong, and President of the Communication University of China Press Zhang Yuqiang.
The event commenced with the official release of the book authored by David W. Ferguson, FLP’s honorary English chief editor. Through in-depth interviews and observations, the book delves into Zhejiang from perspectives including opening up, the private economy, the digital economy and green productivity. In 60,000 words of storytelling of real events and people’s lives, Ferguson shares his ideas about Zhejiang’s contribution to China’s sustainable development trajectory.
Ferguson engaged in a discussion with people he interviewed for the book, offering behind-the-scenes stories during its creation. Representatives from the public communication departments of Yiwu, Anji, Deqing and Kecheng, and international students from Beijing’s universities received copies of the book.
During discussions, guests shared views on the new book and emphasized its significance in promoting a deeper understanding of China’s development and modernization to foreign readers.
Zhegjiang is an important cradle of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It is the mission of both FLP and ZICC to communicate the Thought and China’s modernization drive to international audiences. During the event FLP and ZICC introduced “Decode China: David Ferguson’s Storytelling”, a convergence media series based on the book, in an attempt to tell engaging stories of China’s modernization to the world by pooling the strengths of central and local media.
Since its release, the series has received wide attention both domestically and internationally, with over 500 mainstream overseas media outlets, including the Associated Press, Fox Broadcasting Company, American Broadcasting Company, Italy’s ADN Kronos, and Spain’s Europa Press, republishing the content. As of March 25, the series had garnered over 50 million views online.
FLP and ZICC also signed a strategic cooperation agreement on-site.
