Promotional Event for the Arabic Edition of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China Held in Cairo

On the afternoon of April 24 local time, a promotional event for the Arabic edition of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China was held in Cairo, the capital city of Egypt, under the auspices of China International Communication Group (CICG) and the Chinese Embassy in Egypt. The event was organized by Foreign Languages Press (FLP) and CICG Center for Europe and Africa, and co-organized by Egypt’s Bayt Alhekma Cultural Industry Group. The Al-Dostor newspaper of Egypt participated in media cooperation.

Over 100 guests from China and Arab countries attended the event. CICG President Du Zhanyuan, Former Prime Minister of Egypt Dr. Essam Abdel-Aziz Sharaf, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Hussein Al-Hindawi, and Head of the Egyptian National Media Authority Hussein Zain delivered speeches. Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt Zhang Tao, members of the Arab Publishers Association, and government officials and representatives from political parties, the media, think tanks, universities, publishing houses, and the business sector in China and the Arab world also participated in the event. FLP President Hu Kaimin and Director of CICG’s Department of International Cooperation Liu Shuangyan hosted the promotional event and the exchange and discussion session, respectively.

Du Zhanyuan stated in his speech that as an important work of President Xi’s, Xi Jinping: The Governance of China has long been considered a “window of thought” for the world to understand China. It is not only one of the most influential books by a leader in the new era, but also an authoritative source for readers worldwide to understand both China’s governance strategy and principles in the new era and the modern civilization of the Chinese nation. The book has been warmly welcomed by political leaders, experts, scholars, and members of the public in Egypt and around the globe. Du further pointed out that the book embodies the value of “putting the people first” and a people-centered philosophy of development in national governance. It reveals the internal logic of Chinese modernization and provides an example and inspiration for other developing countries to explore their paths towards modernization. It elaborates on China’s views on international order and global governance and shares insights on the future of humanity, a major topic in the book. He added that CICG hopes to promote exchanges and cooperation, enhance mutual learning, and build cultural exchange platforms with the media, publishers, and think tanks from Egypt and other Arab countries in order to facilitate people-to-people exchanges between China and Egypt and between China and the rest of the Arab world.

Essam Abdel-Aziz Sharaf said that Xi Jinping: The Governance of China clearly portrays China’s vision to the international community, unreservedly sharing the experience of Chinese modernization and helping readers better understand China’s development philosophy and its current policies, presenting China as a country worthy of friendship, trust, and respect. He stated that Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is extraordinary because it draws from China’s outstanding traditional culture that dates back thousands of years to inspire Chinese modernization, and integrates China’s own development with that of the world. It not only points out the direction for China’s development but also provides an example for the rest of the developing world.

Liao Liqiang noted in his speech that the four volumes of The Governance of China constitute a philosophical and theoretical system, and clearly present the development process and essential principles of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. He said that the book provides an authoritative source for the international community to further understand China’s path, philosophy, and solutions in the new era and is thus of great significance to both China and the world. In decoding Chinese modernization, Liao believes The Governance of China is a valuable work that showcases China’s sense of responsibility as a major country, and acts as a window for the world to feel the charisma of the Chinese leader. He added that President Xi’s new ideas and proposals are full of wisdom, and show China’s firm commitment to following the path of peaceful development, highlighting its sincere desire to bring benefits to the world through its own development.

Hussein Al-Hindawi stated that Xi Jinping: The Governance of China contains elements of China’s ancient philosophy of governance that are easy to understand and still apply in this modern age, referring to it as a classic work on a global scale. The initiatives and development philosophy proposed by President Xi mentioned in the book have brought tangible benefits to the Chinese people, and will inspire other developing countries in choosing their own development paths.

In his written speech, Hussein Zain pointed out that the event will boost Egypt-China relations and friendship, promote mutual exchanges on governance, and enhance the understanding of all sectors in Egypt of China’s policies and their principles. He stated that the Egyptian National Media Authority will continue to coordinate all parties’ efforts and actively support media cooperation between Egypt and China, so as to contribute to the all-round development of bilateral relations in all fields.
